Therapy Aide / Therapy Tech

Inpatient

We are looking for a PRN therapy tech (therapy aide) that would like to be part of a wonderful inpatient rehabilitation team. Therapy Tech duties include, scheduling of patients in electronic medical record, assisting therapists during direct patient care, transferring patients and transportation via WC to group classes, light clerical tasks and other duties as assigned, infection control cleaning and maintenance of therapy equipment and gyms. Positive attitude, flexibility, good communication and willingness to learn and work within the culture of a team are a must.
Available for Saturday /Sunday shifts as well as weekday shifts as needed. Working a minimum of 2 days per month is required. Our hospital is located in Lakeway Texas in the scenic hill country on the southern shores of Lake Travis. Lakeway is a resort community about 25 miles west of downtown Austin.

Select Medical/Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation complies with state and federal wage and hour laws. PRN rate: $20.00 an hour.

Responsibilities

The Therapy Aide/Therapy Tech provides care under the direction of a therapist, this position exists to assist patients in the rehabilitation process through provision of requested activities. Prepares and maintains equipment and physical environment for daily activities.

Employees in this position will:

    Performs patient related tasks assigned by therapist, including but not limited to:
    1. Lifts patients to/from mats, treatment and tilt tables, wheelchairs and other equipment appropriate to the facility/department.
    2. Assists patients with transfer activities to all surfaces.
    3. Assists patients in donning/doffing all appliances specific to the facility/department.
    4. Positions patients in parallel bars and prepares patients for standing with appropriate orthotic/prosthetic devices and equipment.
    5. Transports patients to/from therapy as needed.
    6. Assists therapist with other patient related treatment activities as appropriate and providing equipment.
    7. Assist with patient related activities including equipment set-up and patient positioning in preparation for therapy session as outlined in the State Practice Act.
  1. Prepares department each morning.
  2. Picks up equipment during treatment hours and at the end of treatment day.
  3. Maintains department in a clean and orderly condition. Disinfects equipment throughout and at the conclusion of the treatment day according to infection control policies and procedures.
  4. Reports defective equipment to Manager/Director.
  5. Ensures maintenance of cleaning logs and temperature logs.
  6. Follows and assists with infection control policies and risk management procedures.
  7. Assists with identification of support staff needs for patient care.
  8. Participates in therapeutic dysphagia and feeding program as requested and supervised by the therapists.
  9. Provides coverage for Wheelchair Technicians to include:
    1. Maintaining inventory of all wheelchairs and wheelchair parts, including distribution, cleaning and repair.
    2. Assists with cleaning/disinfecting of wheelchairs and cushions after each patient use.
    3. Assists with preventative maintenance and repairs on wheelchair fleet to extend life of equipment and ensure patient safety.
    4. Distributes wheelchairs to new patients, as requested by therapy department.
  10. Informs Manager/Director of needed supplies, assists with inventory control and ordering of supplies.
  11. Assists with basic clerical duties as requested.
  12. Communicates with Manager/Director on a timely basis regarding problems, issues and needs related to work assignment.
  13. Establishes and maintains current knowledge of all Performance Improvement and patient care improvement issues and maintains an active role in monitoring these issues.
  14. Participates in facility specific Core Program meetings and demonstrates understanding of patient satisfaction outcome data.
  15. Arranges for responsibilities to be covered by other trained staff members in planned absences.
  16. Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications

Minimum Skills, Knowledge & Abilities (including licensure, certification and other job-related credentials)

  1. High school graduate or equivalent required.
  2. One or more years of healthcare experience as a rehab aide preferred.
  3. Strong preference will be placed on candidates in PT/OT school
  4. Certified BLS or completion in first 90 days of employment required.
