Position Summary:

Provides program support and delivery of a specific YMCA program to the membership and community that focuses on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Works under general supervision by following standard practice and procedures. This seasonal position is effective May to August 9th, 2024.

YMCA of Greater Houston Youth Development Program Manager supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position assists with organizing and implementing high-quality YMCA day camp programing. The Youth Development Program Manager will create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while inspiring youth to discover their passions. This position will enthusiastically represent the Y by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.

YMCA Youth Development Program Managers build and maintain strong relationships with families, community and YMCA centers through positive proactive communication. They implement curriculum to meet licensing standards and improve quality through program evaluation and assessment. Youth Development Program Managers assist with onboarding YMCA site leads and counselors to deliver high quality programs. Recruitment and retention of participants is also of importance.

Essential Functions:

  1. Program Quality: Actively works within assigned program area to provide oversight and coordinate high quality youth development programs in afterschool and outdoor day camp setting for assigned location/s, in adherence to Y program model, curriculum and quality standards. Ensure campgrounds and program space are safe, engaging.
  2. Program Compliance: Ensure that all assigned program areas are in compliance with YMCA standards, risk management policies are followed, plus state and local regulations are adhered to.
  3. Program Evaluation: Monitors and evaluates program delivery within program area. Supports the program director with identifying program needs in relation to staffing, program supplies, equipment, etc.
  4. Staff Development: Assists with onboarding and training of new staff.
  5. Program Planning & Innovation: Assist Program Director in planning, organizing, and implementing age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities Fosters innovation by recognizing and sharing new and relevant ideas.
  6. Marketing & Promotion: Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information and schedule program registrations. As well as confirming those registrations, and answering parent concerns.
  7. Community Engagement:Maintains strong relationships with Houston Independent School District (HISD) and the district wraparounds in an effort to provide programming to HISD students. Performs wellness checks with families and assists in the scheduling of parent/director meetings, as well as answers all parent inquiries regarding camp.
  8. Problem Solving: Identifies concerns and works with program director to resolve them in a timely manner.
  9. Center / Program Engagement: Actively participates in center / program related events, meetings and staff trainings. Develop and maintain good working relationships with the directors, managers, staff, parents and families by way of open communication, positive problem solving, flexibility, and teamwork.
  10. Annual Campaign: Assists in YMCA annual campaign fundraising and special events.
  11. Administration: Maintains all required program records and compiles needed statistics. Submit all required reports in a timely manner. Meet timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance.
  12. Child Abuse Prevention: Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements. Adheres to polices related to boundaries with each child.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Bilingual; Fluent in written and verbal English and Spanish
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Available for trainings on occasional weekends and after hours

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in both English and Spanish. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, and/or feel objects, tools, and/or controls. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Possess adequate vision and hearing to safely monitor environment and effective communicate with members.

The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions during the day camp program.Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is occasionally exposed to nature, animals, fumes and airborne particles, toxic, or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and/or blood.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local between assigned centers during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

HOURS

Flexible with scheduling and available to work operational hours of the YMCA, which may include day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays, based on the center needs. This seasonal position is effective April to August 9th, 2024.
