JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

TheRelief Pharmacistposition coordinates the drug distribution and clinical pharmacy activities for support departments. The role is responsible for safe and efficient methods for coordination of established pharmacy policy concerning drug patient care (pet) and provides clinical drug information to meet the needs of the patient (pet), the veterinarian and all other appropriate support personnel.They will also support the company mission, vision, and values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews and interpretsvetsorders for appropriateness relevant to, to ensure that overdoses or under-doses have not been prescribed and that interactions, incompatibilities or toxic compounds will not resultfrom combination of medications

  • Dispenses prescriptions to pets in accordance with policy and in conformance with regulations and laws dealing with the class of prescription; counsels patients (pet owners) about their medications and maintainsan accurate, up to date profile

  • Maintains necessary controls with respect to audited controlled drugs and alcohol; prepares controlled drug request for delivery by technician

  • Participates in in-service education programs when requested

  • Verifies the work performed by support personnel, which includes pet drug data entry, cassette fillingand unit-dose drug distribution

  • Maintains up to date knowledge of the profession by participating in organization memberships; by attending meetings, lectures, in service and seminars; by reading journals; and by complying with National Standards of Continuing Education to maintain professional competency and proficiency

  • Participates in clinical programs instituted in the department such as drug-level monitoring, antibiotic monitoring and consults

  • Participatesin special studies as requested

  • Ensures that the quality of the professional services is maintained

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pharmacy Technicians

  • Ancillary Personnel

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree or BS Degree in Pharmacy

  • Must have 6 - 12 months of experience

  • Experience with veterinary products preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must be a Licensed Registered Pharmacist in good standing with the state ofTexasand other states as required

  • Mathematics - Using mathematics to solve problems

  • Technical- proficient on keyboard and operating a computer terminal. Ability to utilizing PPE and pharmacy equipment to preform duties

  • Communication- ability to communicate verbally in a professional manner with co-workers.

  • Dependability- exhibitpunctuality and low absenteeism

  • Normal office environmentwith extensive use of computer

  • Must be able to reach overhead, climb ladders or stairs, lift/carry or push/pull heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.). Must have the energy and physical stamina to move freely about, and be able to sit or stand for long periods of time (up to 2 hours)
