Job Description

Position Summary

The Electrical Estimator will produce accurate construction cost budgets and electrical estimates to support project planning goals and initiatives.

  • Display proficiency in the scope review process and utilize estimating software platforms to perform accurate quantity take-offs.
  • Develops skills in concept, schematic design, and technical specifications to prepare competitive bid proposals.
  • Develop working relationships with clients, architects, subcontractors, and vendors to pursue bid invitations and obtain a competitive advantage.
  • Meet deadline challenges and have ability to prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Provide technical assistance to Project Manager(s) in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc.
  • As required. Assure clean hand-off of estimates, bidding information, drawings, specifications, etc. and define inclusions and exclusions for project management and field leaders.
  • Able to perform on-site inspections of existing conditions and verify switchgear requirements while utilizing appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) as required, including hard hat, safety glasses, and hard-sole footwear at minimum.
  • Perform other position appropriate duties as required in a competent and professional manner in compliance with company Safety policies and procedures.

Work Environment

This position will be conducted in a temperature controlled professional office environment, with moderate noise. The role will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, file cabinets, and fax machines. Additional working conditions could include occasional exposure to typical job-site hazards such as dust, noise, moving equipment and limited electrical hazards while performing on-site visits.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen sit, walk, reach, kneel, stoop, crouch, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel and to operate a computer keyboard and phone while maintaining visual acuity. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and or carry lightweight objects (under 20 pounds).

Expected Hours of Work

Full time position. Occasional extended hours and weekends may apply.

Travel

Minimal travel required, depending on the project, travel to other areas may be required. Majority of travel done during work hours; overnight stays may be required. Ability to operate company trucks legally and safely as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School graduate or GED (at minimum)
  • Current State issued Electrician Journeyman or Masters' license, (Or applicable "Electrical related" degree).
  • Minimum four (4) years of work experience in related job field. -or-
  • Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, Business, Finance, or related job field is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of accounting and project management concepts.
  • Thorough understanding of research methodology, data analysis, and estimation metrics.

Additional Eligibility Questions

  • Well organized, excellent communication skills, and negotiation abilities.
  • Solid background in related math skills with strong analytical ability.
  • Broad knowledge of building construction systems, materials, systems, market conditions, and trade practices.
  • Specific trade experience with electrical products and methods of installation and knowledgeable of electrical codes and local ordinances.
  • Must have conceptual ability to work with limited information and develop an effective understanding of the owner and/or architect requirements and needs.
  • Facility to acquire a comprehensive working knowledge of the estimating documents and produce an accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of the construction documents.
  • Proficiency with various Microsoft Suite programs, as applicable.
  • Expected to complete OSHA10 certification and First Aid/CPR w/AED as offered by Christman.
  • Possess the ability to safely climb various types of ladders when necessary for access to the jobsite.
  • The employee must possess good vision, whether (corrected or normal).
