Senior Lubricant Chemist

We're seeking a motivated, highly organized, scientific individual who has a passion for the research and development of lubricants and fuel additive products in our Lubricants R&D group. As a Senior Lubricant Scientist you will develop advanced performance lubricant formulas and see it through to commercialization. You will identify new growth opportunities and develop ideas into new products or process innovation to contribute to our growing business. We tailor our products for agriculture, bio-mass, pellet mills, construction, fleet, forestry, manufacturing, maritime, mining, oil & gas, and waste & scrap. Responsibilities:

  • Lead new product and process development projects from cradle to grave.
  • Develop formulas, product specifications, and processing parameters in the lab for new products and product improvements.
  • Define and drive testing for performance requirements.
  • Own the manufacturing process instructions for products in area of responsibility and strive for continuous improvement.
  • Identify new raw materials for performance improvement, cost reduction, and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as technical expert in at least two areas of industrial applications.
  • Recognize early failures and mentor associate scientists on lessons learned.
  • Collect, analyze, report, and present data to stakeholders.
  • Make field observations when necessary and communicate observations to lab associates.
  • Utilize lab software systems to record and reference data.
  • Troubleshoot product non-conformances and ensure quality compliance, both domestically and Internationally.
  • Manage and communicate risks for product programs and processes.
  • Work effectively with team members and resources to complete project tasks and advance projects through key decision points.
  • Keep team members informed on latest technologies.
  • Ensure that Corporate Safety and ISO procedures are followed in area of responsibility.
  • Mentor associates on general laboratory procedures and instrumentation in area of responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • Chemistry, Engineering, or other related science degree
  • 5-15 years experience in a grease, lubricant, or fuel additive laboratory environment or related laboratory/production setting
  • Expertise in grease or lubricant chemistry, testing, production and applications
  • Experience in tribology and rheology preferred
  • A self-starter with proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite applications
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Quick learner, coachable and adaptable; must be able to retain and apply new information quickly
  • Strong demonstrated ability to research and apply new knowledge
