Job Description

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of test engineers, you will help test in-space propulsion components and thrusters to meet Blue Origin's program requirements for various spaceflight systems. You will directly contribute to test operations by assisting with test planning and execution, risk identification and mitigation, hardware integration for test campaigns, pre and post-test inspections, data review and performance analysis. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable operations.

This position is based in Van Horn, TX. Being at the heart of Blue Origin operations, the West Texas Site offers eligible employees additional attractive financial incentives to supplement their competitive base earnings, including a living allowance and relocation assistance, etc. Eligibility is based on the employee's ability to permanently relocate to Van Horn, TX.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and manufacture new test positions to successfully meet requirements for various rocket components and propulsion systems
  • Develop and run procedures to successfully run tests utilizing cryogenic and high-pressure fluid systems
  • Review test data and provide assessments on test stand and test article performance
  • Identify and execute projects that improve test stand capabilities, operational efficiency, and test stand safety
  • Plan and execute projects to schedule including component selection, procurement, supplier management, etc.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in a testing environment or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, work independently, and provide mentorship to peers
  • Strong technical fundamentals in fluids and thermodynamics
  • Knowledge of instrumentation including pressure transducers, thermocouples, silicon diodes, resistance temperature detectors and accelerometers
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering standards and technical requirements.
  • Technical expertise in any the following test stand systems
    • High pressure gaseous systems (GH2, GHe, GOx, GN2)
    • Cryogenic systems (LH2, LOx, LN2, LNG)
    • Steam systems
    • Vacuum systems
    • Data Acquisition Systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships
  • Understanding of rocket system architecture and functionality
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Physical Requirements:

  • Test Operations is a physically active, all four (4) seasons role with both indoor and outdoor work requirements, to include rain, wind, cold, heat, & humidity.


Desired:

  • M.S. or Ph.D., in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with experimental lab experience
  • 2-4 years of experience in an aerospace testing environment
  • Detailed understanding of space systems including engines and engine sub-components, such as turbopumps, combustion devices, valves, and other fluid components
  • Hands-on experience with integrating test articles and sub-assemblies for test
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Winplot, or other control/data acquisition and reduction software
  • Demonstrated ability to design for manufacture and streamlined operations
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technicians to effectively execute project builds
  • Familiarity with CAD applications (Creo preferred)
  • Strong ability to recognize pitfalls of processes and implement improvements
