General Notes

This is a grant funded position with an end date of 12/31/2024, renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress. Funding expected to continue till 12/31/2025.

Consults with faculty and/or staff to identify reporting needs and provides guidance and interpretation of complex environments and data. Documents data analysis efforts (data sources, reporting specifications, tools, issue/problem resolutions). Researches and stays up-to-date on emerging technologies and data analysis tools.

Purpose

Support National Pediatric Readiness Quality Initiative Program and Department of Pediatrics programs. Provides analysis of existing data and data structures and satisfies ad-hoc reporting/analysis requests. Creates reporting specifications for new reports/dashboards/analytical tools and assists in testing/validation; ensures integrity, accessibility, and accuracy of reports/dashboards and data structures; reviews and approves user requests for access to reporting data and tools.

Responsibilities

Design and Develop Visualizations:

  • Create visually appealing charts, graphs, and dashboards using tools likeTableau,Power BI, and Python libraries such asPlotlyandDash.

  • Transform complex data into intuitive visual representations.

  • Ensure consistency in design and adherence to best practices.

  • Build interactive dashboards that provide actionable insights.

  • Combine multiple visualizations to tell a cohesive data story.

  • Customize dashboards based on user needs (operational, tactical, strategic, or analytical).

  • Integrating program data from various sources into digital content (website, social media).

Data Integrity and Accuracy:

  • Validate data sources and maintain data quality.

  • Ensure that visualizations accurately reflect underlying data.

  • Perform regular checks to prevent discrepancies.

  • Effectively disseminate findings by formulating and presenting reports of results including graphical displays.

  • Collaborate on the development of reports or manuscripts for peer-review, including but not limited to scholarly journals.

User Access Management:

  • Review and approve access requests to data visualization tools.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand reporting needs.

  • Provide guidance on interpreting complex visualizations.

  • Provide guidance on website layout/user interfaces.

Continuous Learning and Innovation:

  • Stay updated on emerging trends in data visualization.

  • Explore new techniques and tools to enhance visual storytelling.

  • Share knowledge with colleagues and contribute to the team's growth.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Science, Technical, Information Systems, Information Technology, Business, or Design and 1 year of related experience in data visualization. Excellent visual design knowledge, including layout, typography, color, and interaction design. Proficiency withAdobe toolsfor creating compelling visual elements. Strong understanding of cartography principles. Ability to create effective maps and spatial visualizations. Expertise in various data visualization techniques, including bar charts, scatter plots, histograms, and timelines. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

A relevant Bachelor's or Master's degreein fields such as Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Science, Technical, Information Systems, Information Technology, Business, or Design. A minimum ofthree yearsof hands-on experience in data visualization. Proficiency inSQL, allowing efficient data retrieval and manipulation. Mastery ofTableaufor building interactive dashboards. Familiarity withPythonfor custom visualizations. Understanding oftuningfor performance optimization. Knowledge ofrelational and dimensional database structures. Experience withtriggers,theories, andanalytic/windowing functions. Experience working in an Electronic Medical Record and Electronic Data Capture systems. Knowledge ofquantitative research methods. Ability to develop insightful reports based on data analysis.

Salary Range

$62,128 + depending on qualifications
