Summary

Responsible for developing, coordinating, and supervising recreation activities and developing promotional materials for these related activities.

Salary: $19.37 - $24.95/depending on qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate recreation activities performed on a day-to-day basis including the recruitment of new instructors, scheduling of classes and staff and issuing payment to instructors.

  • Oversee daily front desk operations of a center including program registration, facility reservations, equipment check out and answer telephones and emails.

  • Prepare and distribute promotional materials to promote the center and its programs to the community including design, layout, editing and providing photography and graphics for publications, flyers and brochures.

  • Teach, coordinate and implement a variety of courses based on individual abilities and needs of the community.

  • Assist with planning and coordinating special events held at the center.

  • May write scripts and oversee video production for special events and programs.

  • Collect and record daily intake of money from fees paid by patrons. Prepare daily deposit of monies collected.

  • Ensures timely follow-through on customer requests and complaints and handles difficult customer situations with respect and professionalism.

  • Evenings and weekend hours required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 1 years related experience Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, Leisure Administration, Public Education, Marketing or related field

  • 2-3 years experience in recreation programming and marketing

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of recreation programming and activities

  • Basic knowledge of marketing methods and strategies

  • Basic knowledge of financial bookkeeping practices and procedures

  • Skills in computer operations and software including MS Office and registration/reservation applications

  • Ability to meet and exceed facility and staff goals

  • Ability to enforce recreation center rules and procedures

  • Ability to assess needs of recreation center service areas and plan appropriate programming

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license

  • CPR, AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and First Aide Certifications within 6 months of hire.

  • City of Garland Defensive Driving Certification within 6 months of hire.

  • Successful completion of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) ICS (Incident Command System) courses IS100 and IS700 within 6 months of hire.

The incumbent works both in inside and outside environmental conditions; occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Work requires standing, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs, grasping, and repetitive motions. Incumbent may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
