We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees. RAICES not only assists immigrants in navigating through complicated immigration laws, but we also assist immigrants with social needs through case management and providing assistance with housing. COVID-19 Response
Protecting the health and safety of employees and clients remains essential. We currently practice social distancing and encourage masks in all public areas. RAICES is using a phased-in approach to return staff to resume in-office operations.


This position will require working remotely and in-office at the assigned work location. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.


PLEASE NOTE: All employees are assigned to an office location. The expectation is that you live within the area to commute to and from the office as business or client needs require.

The Accounting Specialist will perform various administrative and technical tasks to support the effective and efficient operations of RAICES Finance Department. This position will assist with providing supporting documentation related to responses to union information requests, planning for contract negotiations, and with compliance and implementation of labor contract provisions. This position will prepare and keep control and subsidiary accounting records involving a variety of transactions and accounts and examines and ensures posting to proper accounts and general ledger.

The Accounting Specialist position is 100% in-office at our San Antonio Location- Monday -Friday 8:30am- 5:30 pm.

Responsibilities:


Payroll Responsibilities:

  • Responds to payroll related questions and concerns from employees, supervisors, and management along with the Staff Accountant and Controller to provide coordinated, responsive, and professional support to all requests to ensure effective and efficient operations.
  • Review, process, and maintain accurate payroll records for employees, including time sheets, direct deposit information, new hires, terminations, salary changes, and deduction changes.
  • Process payroll runs under the supervision of a Staff Accountant or the Controller.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Assist in preparing and distributing payroll reports to management.
  • Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve any issues or errors.
  • Assists with reviewing and auditing payroll records. Collaborate with HR department to ensure accurate employee data and payroll information.
  • Work quickly and accurately while multi-tasking in a team environment and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Assist with year-end payroll processes and reporting.

Other Finance Responsibilities:

  • Assist in accounts payable data entry of invoices, payments, travel and purchase requisitions.
  • Assist in monthly accounts receivable data entry and follow up on collections for payments.
  • Assist with monthly account reconciliations and statement verifications.
  • Assist with data entry of credit card receipts and reconciliations.
  • Responsible for maintaining organized accounting records electronically and hard copies.
  • Responsible for filing and maintaining updated accounting records.
  • Supports monthly closing process.
  • Completes report forms and prepares financial information for management.
  • Adhere to Federal and State policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years assisting in budget preparation by compiling necessary information manually or by using computer based records pertaining to budgets, accounts, inventories and other financial operations.
  • 2 years payroll experience,
  • 2 years experience in accounts payable and receivable, and
  • 2 years coordinating accounts payable activities with the purchasing and other finance departments.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years experience purchase requisitions, vouchers, receipts and other documents entering data onto computer spreadsheets, ledgers, worksheets, and other forms,
  • 3 year experience in accounts payable and receivable experience,
  • 2 year grant accounting experience,
  • 2 years nonprofit accounting experience, and
  • Associates Degree or Accounting Certificate.
