Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following; other duties may be assigned)

The accounting specialist serves as a subject matter expert in the fixed asset area and provides technical advice/counsel to team members and is required to work collaboratively within the department and with cross functional teams as part of day to day activities. The team is responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of the Company's fixed assets and capital expenditures. The team's responsibilities include daily use of the fixed asset subledger, Power Plan and interaction with the general ledger. Additionally, this team is responsible for the fixed asset accounting and reporting of several stand-alone financial statements required under financing agreements (debt stand-alone financial statements). The team works with both plant operations, business managers and plant managers across the fleet, IT personnel and other accounting teams on a daily basis.

The Accounting Specialist role is responsible for execution and review of accounting and reporting activities and functions related to the accounting for fixed assets including ensuring accurate reporting for depreciation, tracking projects for in service and recording and accounting for retirement and major outage work across the Company. This includes reviewing and approving entries in Power Plan and the General ledger system relating to these areas as monthly and quarterly close responsibilities, reconciling all balances, creation and review of management reporting packages and analyses, account reconciliations, and supporting other projects and reporting needs as needed. A key part of this role is to work with the manager to identify process flow changes or pain points in the current process and how to alleviate them working with the manager and others. The Accounting Specialist is also required to collaborate closely with other accounting groups and others as part of day-to-day activities and critical to have strong excel skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Execute processes and procedures to comply with monthly financial statement close deadlines
  • Preparation and / or review of fixed asset balances and activity for Consolidated and stand alone reporting requirements
  • Review of all fixed asset activity and preparation/ review of all analysis files and schedules used to support month end balances and activity
  • Working daily within the fixed asset subledger, Power Plan and ensuring all data flows between the subledger and the general ledger
  • Review of controls testing and flowchart reviews for all fixed asset related processes
  • Working with the manager to improve processes and controls in the fixed asset areas

Job Requirements

  • Strong analytical and computer skills are required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or finance preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Ability to comprehend process automation and integration as well as lead system design and implementation projects.
  • Experience with Peoplesoft and Workiva preferred but not required
  • Strong analytical and technical MS Office suite skills preferred
  • Advanced excel skills are required including use of pivot tables and filters. Use of macros and other Excel tools is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with significant deadlines.
  • Must be able to work longer hours at various times during the year to meet deadlines and job requirements.
