Huntsman is seeking a Laboratory Technician supporting the Performance Products Division located in Freeport, Texas.

Job Scope

Responsible for providing analytical test data to process units and shipping area to ensure product quality control is maintained throughout the plant. Primary purpose of the Lab Technician is to perform technician functions necessary for effective overall laboratory operation.

As the Laboratory Technician you will:

  • Perform all laboratory sample analysis work as pertains to Huntsman Freeport plant.
  • Perform and maintain records for lab equipment routine calibrations and verifications.
  • Perform special laboratory sample analyses upon request. Provide technician support for Lab related special assignments as needed.
  • Ensure adequate laboratory supplies are maintained, including lab gases, reagents and solvents, sampling supplies, other laboratory warehouse supplies, and lab equipment spare parts (with support from the Chemist). Prepare all of the standard lab reagents and solvents as needed.
  • Perform troubleshooting and equipment repairs on other lab equipment as needed.
  • Responsible to ensure that special needs or requests from the units, the Chemist or the business are communicated properly and handled in a timely manner.
  • Write and maintain written procedures, as needed.
  • Help maintain site ISO 9001 certification.
  • Primary on-the-job trainer for new or contract lab technicians and operators for analyzing Operations samples. Coordinate and cooperate with any needed contract lab technician support (onboarding, training, daily activity direction)
  • Perform specialized technician related tasks for the Quality Assurance program such as running instrument Gage R&R studies, maintaining lab related SPC/SQC charting, etc.
  • Enter or assure sample analysis results are entered/maintained in the sample management program.
  • Maintain current knowledge of safety practices for laboratory and the chemicals used and handled (MSDS, HAZWOPER, etc.); responsible for the adherence to safety instructions applicable to work performed and for adherence to general safety instructions.
  • Coordinate all sample shipping activities offsite to/from Freeport Lab, in accordance with DOT and/or IATA regulations.
  • Provide backup support for Lab Chemist duties as needed and trained to do so.

Other general responsibilities:

  • Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Assists other employees in accomplishment of Huntsman company goals.
  • Participates in and completes company-required training programs.
  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.

Required Qualifications:

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of related working experience in an industrial setting such as Refinery, Paper or Chemical plant.

Specific Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety, health and environmental rules, laws, requirements and applicable Huntsman programs.
  • Demonstrated oral, written communication and math skills. Strong organizational and motivational skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and resources.
  • Ability to develop partnerships within and outside process area.
  • Ability to interpret and apply corporate policies and procedures.
  • Analytical lab experience with Gas Chromatography (GC) required.
  • Lab equipment maintenance training and experience such as for Agilent equipment GCs preferred.
