Summary

Responsible for assisting Environmental Health Specialists control vectors of communicable diseases such as mosquitoes.

Salary: $15.50/hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect mosquito samples for disease testing and surveillance.

  • Operate a truck-mounted and hand-held mosquito sprayer unit during nighttime and early morning hours.

  • Apply mosquito larvae control chemicals/biologicals to standing water.

  • Respond to other citizen vector concerns as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)

  • No experience required

  • Forty hours of in-house training on vector control activities

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • 6 months experience with vector control and surveillance activities such as larviciding, adulticiding, and sample collection

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic biological and chemical principals

  • Ability to work under moderate stress and relate well to a highly varied community public

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Forty hours of in-house training on vector control activities required

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works in an outdoor environment; occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Outside work is required.
