OverviewAs part of the Ecosystems business within Commerce Ecosystem, the Skilling organization skills the workforce of today and tomorrow by providing a single, coherent, online platform that enables Microsoft to bring content and experience to customers to enable them to learn, grow, and adopt Microsoft technology. Learners can gain new skills, solve problems, and connect with other technologists through access totechnical documentation, training, Q&A. They can also discover architectural guidance, frameworks, and code samples to help them make the most of Microsoft technology. We make these resources available through1st party in-product integrations, 3rd party experiences, at events and through channels. The Content Operations team is a small team of 2 people, currently focused on repository (repo) operations and management, and the end-to-end authoring and publishing process for C+E Skilling Content to ensure that these processes and tooling adhere to Microsoft repo standards, and our established Learn platform content standards. As a Content Program Manager, Microsoft Learn of the Content Operations team, you'll work primarily on GitHub repository operations and governance for Microsoft Learn. You will play a pivotal role in improving operations, compliance, and governance of GitHub repositories for the C+E Skilling content organization. This work includes: Ensuring and maintaining compliance with Open Source Program Office (OSPO) and One Engineering System (1ES) repository standards. Researching best practices across content organizations to define and standardize C+E Skilling repository processes and governance. Educating and guiding content teams on their responsibilities and obligations when they are working in repositories with write, maintain, or admin permissions. Driving and ensuring adoption of and compliance with new processes, requirements, and governance. Looking for opportunities to continuously improve our repo management processes and reduce duplication of effort. Participating in or driving projects to improve the end-to-end authoring and publishing process. Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. ResponsibilitiesRepo Governance Define repo management standards and an operations model, which includes the deployment of editorial and quality tools (e.g., human PR review, automated merge, Acrolinx, and other corporate compliance tools), provisioning and review processes for new repositories, and guidelines for various aspects of repository management, such as access control, configuration, troubleshooting, and other related tasks. Uphold governance standards by tracking compliance with OSPO guidelines, enforcing code of conduct, and ensuring adherence to other compliance standards. Develop a standardized operating procedure for repository maintenance, fostering consistency and repeatable skill sets among various repository owners Conduct regular audits of the existing repository model to ensure compliance and security, identifying potential risks (e.g., oversized repositories, lack of ownership, access controls and permissions, etc.) and documenting findings. Repo Operations Serve as the repository expert within the Content organization, closely collaborating with Learn Platform Product Managers (LPP) and Content Program Managers (CPM) when projects involve repository dependencies. Provide guidance and assistance to repository owners for escalated issues or challenges that they are unable to resolve independently, including investigating build failures, random PR routing, emergency routing, and bulk monitoring/routing. Review and approve the provisioning of new repositories, ensuring alignment with established standards and procedures. Maintain up-to-date and accurate ownership information for repositories, collaborating with local owners to resolve discrepancies. Oversee the "Guardians of the Repositories" community, a group of repository super-users who offer troubleshooting support and share best practices. Administratively manage a designated number of repositories, potentially including the largest, specific topic-focused repositories, or others as determined. Work on critical or time-sensitive user/customer issues as required. Work closely with vendors on the setup and configuration of repositories, including tooling applications. Serve as the escalation point for approvals and complex set up issues. Education and Continuous Improvement Train repository owners on roles and responsibilities and ensure education of the process is widely disseminated. Continuously improve methods for tracking repository ownership to ensure accuracy and accountability. Identify gaps or problems in the repo management workflow and work with partners and stakeholders to improve how repos are managed and maintained. Project/Program Management Collaborate with internal stakeholders as necessary to support project execution. Consider cross-functional inputs, identify collaborative opportunities and key stakeholders within/across projects, and balance competing business objectives.
