Job Description

LCRA is looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join our team. As a part of LCRA's EMS networking team, your expertise will help to ensure network system reliability and security. You will work with young, motivated team members to manage and operate a most mission critical network infrastructure at LCRA. The energy management system is our central sophisticated brain that allows power operators to fully remotely operate all electrical devices located at nearly 400 remote substations in Texas. You and the team will play a crucial role in ensuring all data exchanged within network securely and reliably. You will be trusted to:

-Responsible for design, implementation, and maintenance associated with the EMS and SUBWAN network.
-Maintains and configures firewalls, routers, and switches using standard protocols.
-Proactively monitors, analyzes, and reviews multi-platform EMS computing environment and
implements problem avoidance practices to maintain a high level of reliability, availability, and Cybersecurity.
-Identifies best and least cost network solutions that meet the highest security and availability requirements.
-Solves network systems including local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and networks supporting substation operations. Solves problems causing network outages including identifying issues with hardware, operating system, application, and capacity.
-Maintains network management software.
-Researches, analyzes, and implements software patches or hardware changes to fix any network deficiencies.
-Drafts, updates, and follows detailed work instructions relating to EMS network maintenance.
-Acts as domain expert while working with vendors, documenting changes, and configuring network tools.
-Documents changes made to systems or equipment through appropriate communications and record keeping practices. Documents work into logs, files, system prints and other records and through communications, both verbal and written, with other team members and supervisors.
-May provide on-the-job training and guidance for colleagues with less experience.
-Assist supervisor/manager in screening and hiring activities.

You qualify with:

- Nine or more years of experience in a technical field, computer science, engineering, network systems or relevant experience.
- A degree(s) in computer science, information technology, telecommunications, engineering, or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.

You are a great fit with:

- Knowledge of EMS/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications or prior work experience in a mission critical or controls environment.
- Experience designing and/or operating networks.
- Knowledge of network related platforms, technologies, and protocols inclusive of Cisco IOS, Cisco NXOS, Juniper JunOS, OSPF, BGP, VRF, DNS, and DHCP.
- Juniper JNCIP security/firewall/routing-switching, and Cisco CCNP Routing-switching certificates highly preferred
- Network Automation using Ansible/Python
- Working experience with Splunk Siem

- Responding to operation center when on call (must have 1 hour response max)
