This position is within Digital Development team of Citi Personal Banking and Wealth Management Tech (PBWMT) team. It is for a senior engineering manager to lead and deliver technology projects/changes within Mobile, Web and API stack for Payments Domain work. The person would be responsible to lead a squad of developers and analysts across geographies. Primary responsibilities include all facets of SDLC cycle. Trouble shooting, design thinking, sound technical solutions, stakeholder management and reporting are also expected. Position is based out of Irving, Texas.

Job Description

The engineering squad lead is expected to deliver development projects and changes within the payment domain impacting client self-initiated payment with Mobile and Internet channels.

Person is expected to deliver results through the management of professional team(s) and department(s) stakeholders. Integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area. Contributes to standards around which others will operate. Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the entire function. Requires basic commercial awareness. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers.

  • Responsible for the quality, scope, timeline, effort (co-related to estimation, CR's, complexity), resources (includes Business, Contractor, Professional Services (Vendors) resources as well as Operations),
  • Stakeholder Management: Work hand in hand with Business Project Managers and Technical Delivery Managers to manage stakeholders and relationships - e.g. escalation, expectation, conflict, scope changes, etc. Ensure teams work in a collaborative environment.
  • Keep management and project sponsors abreast of project developments, set up periodic reviews and prepare relevant documents to communicate progress. Effectively communicate with team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Risk and Issue Management: Manage the overall Program risk profile, track risk aging, work-through escalations, change governance and related issues. Implement the risk mitigation plans. Resolve issues at the project or line level and escalate issues which cannot be resolved in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Process Adherence: Partner with relevant stakeholders in ensuring that the system development methodology (SDLC) is followed and the relevant artefacts are delivered on time with quality, in adherence to the development methodology/approach.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for executing and driving results on large-scale efforts or multiple smaller efforts and serving as a development lead for most medium and large projects. This includes expertise with application development methodologies and standards for program analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging and implementation.
  • Accountable for exhibiting a strong understanding of client core business functions.
  • Required to support situations in which end user consultation is required to identify system function specifications and incorporate them into overall system design and delivery. Additionally, utilize comprehensive knowledge of multiple areas within technology to achieve technological objectives.
  • Independent work style, requiring little or no guidance by more senior developers. Decisions will make a significant, measurable impact on the business goals for the client organization.
  • Assist in the planning and managing of application development assignments generally involving large budgets, cross functional projects or multiple projects. This includes effectively understanding and analyzing both technical and business risks and impact.
  • Expected to effectively communicate those risks to the business owners, so that they can make informed decisions.
  • Accountable for providing guidance on architecturally significant efforts during the preplanning phase, and ensuring principles and best practices are followed prior to initiation of work. In doing so, closely watch and evaluate Digital roadmaps, including impacts to support upcoming journeys.
  • Publish design review extensions, and provide documented guidance aligned to sprint plans and timelines.
  • Be part of the design review board that will focus on the design process, search for generic patterns, and, at the same time, share best practices across the organization.
  • Empower SDEs and their teams by mentoring and coaching.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the business domain, the systems, and the products in your space. Understand their accountabilities, boundaries, limitations, scale factors and the reasons behind architectural decisions.
  • Able to direct teams on how to develop and deliver systems that are efficient with resource usage such as hardware, runtime, performance, load, and memory requirements.
  • Responsible for broader design decisions and development of long-term strategies that significantly influence the development process and standards.
  • Provide the corresponding architectural guidance, and conduct design reviews and code reviews based on the projects assigned to your LOB. The product definition and technical planning is out of scope.
  • Contribute to the technical strategy, design choices, and decisions for a product or service.
  • Are accountable for the planning, execution, and delivery of projects from inception to completion, related to an existing technology product or program.
  • Proactively manage the end-to-end delivery of engineering work through the Digital Technology organization and all dependent organizations, reporting out progress, ensuring dependencies are covered.
  • Operate between teams and architectures overseeing the gaps between teams, processes, and systems, while removing all blocking issues leading to a successful delivery.
  • Actively recruit and develop others by mentoring in your organization and/or location.
  • Understand and negotiate the right scope with effort and timeline
  • Validate grooming closure is happening based on agreed scope and timeline so that it does not impact the delivery plan
  • Impediment resolution to ensure development completion as per the plan

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in an Apps Development role or senior level experience in an Enterprise Architecture role with subject matter expert in one or more areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in Project Management principles and software development lifecycle practices and methodology
  • Hands-on knowledge of project management practices, principles and tool sets
  • Deep understanding on the process and roles in Agile development, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery
  • Thorough understanding of the financial services industry preferably consumer banking domain
  • Prior Experience of Delivering high quality strategic large scale projects/releases
  • Experience running a large scale application development teams
  • Functional knowledge of Banking and Payments domain would be a plus.
  • Demonstrate knowledge on automating code quality, code performance, unit testing, and build processing in the CI/CD
  • Good understanding in operating systems, middleware, programming languages & frameworks is preferred.
  • Technically familiarity with Online banking and Mobile is preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master's degree preferred
