Lead Dental Assistant - Pediatric

The Lead Dental Assistant's primary responsibility is to provide patient care and assistance to the Doctor with patient procedures, along with supervises other dental assistants. The Lead Dental Assistant must ensure that the patient is the number one priority throughout the visit. This support is crucial to the delivery of the Company's mission of helping children achieve a lifetime of great oral health.

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:

  • Graduate of Accredited Dental Assisting School with a state certification, included but not limited to, nitrous oxide, dental radiology, and expanded function dental assistant (EFDA) or expanded duties dental assistant (EDDA), according to state requirement.
  • CPR certification

JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years' experience working as a dental assistant
  • Pediatric experience, preferred

JOB-RELATED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills- must be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Must be customer service oriented and able to communicate with a pleasant demeanor at all times.
  • Communication - effective written and verbal communication is a must with all staff and management.
  • Must be able to project a capable and professional image- one that is reflective of Company Values.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills- strong attention to detail, be able to multitask and perform job duties in a timely manner.
  • Must have PC skills with an ability to learn and successfully use new software programs as required. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office is preferred; as well as experience with a fax machine, copy machine, and general office equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Dental Office Environment
  • Travel between the assigned offices, if needed
  • Attend and participate in all office meetings, continuing education events and morning huddles.
  • Work hours vary based on the specific office schedule and/or business needs
  • Walking, sitting, standing for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 30 pounds and be able to twist, turn, bend and stoop

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead Dental Assistants are required to perform and help the Doctors perform direct patient care

including, but not limited to; sealants, impressions, and seating appliances. The Lead Dental is responsible for supervision of other Dental Assistants. Lead Dental Assistants are required to perform direct patient care on a day-to-day basis that can involve significant patience and discretion in order to obtain the proper cooperation from each patient. Many children are in need of tender loving care and may involve "tell-show - do" prior to any treatment. Lead Dental Assistants must use creativity and imagination to encourage anxious or timid patients. Adapting to each individual and providing excellent chair side manner is a must. Anticipate the Doctor's needs and be fully prepared for the patient prior to beginning treatment. All necessary cassettes, hand pieces, materials, and instruments should be ready and available for the Doctor.

General Requirements Include:

  • Ability to take impressions.
  • Ability to take diagnostic x-rays, according to state requirements, and display the x-rays according to the type of procedure.
  • Ability to accurately chart and document all notes pertaining to the patient during the exam and treatment set forth by the company guidelines.
  • Ability to review the patient's chart, medical history, HIPAA, treatment plan and consent forms prior to treatment to identify any potential concerns.
  • Ability to monitor the patient at all times while he or she is on nitrous oxide.
  • Obtain stabilization consent form from the parent or guardian as requested by the Doctor.
  • Ability to review and understand the patient's insurance eligibility.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality through HIPAA compliance. Ensure any release of patient information is done according to company guidelines.
