Community Outreach to Diversity Organizations

Family Gateway, in cooperation with the religious community, private sector and governmental entities, provides comprehensive services to children whose families are in crisis: counseling, temporary housing, job search and placement assistance, transitional living apartments and community transition services. The program offers training and counseling which are intended to restore dignity, stability and self-sufficiency to the family unit. All programs and environments are designed to create an atmosphere of emotional, social and economic empowerment.

Attitudes & Attire™ is a non-profit agency dedicated to promoting personal growth for women seeking self-sufficiency. Our program provides the tools that raise self-esteem, promote ethics and build the confidence necessary to succeed in the workplace.

Buckner Children and Family Services is a diverse global ministry to children. Our mission is to be a multi-service agency dedicated to the restoration and healing of individuals and the family. Our services include a global humanitarian aid program, volunteer missions opportunities, community enrichment and prevention programs, an international network of residential, foster care and transitional housing services, domestic and international adoption, and support programs for children living in orphanages in other countries.

Career Gear Houston, a non-profit organization, was established in 2004 to address the unmet clothing and appearance needs of unemployed, low-income, job-ready men in the greater Houston area, who are seeking gainful employment. Career Gear Houston's vision is to become a premier agency serving the needs of area employment service programs by providing their job-ready male clients with interview appropriate clothing.

Since 1891, Catholic Charities of Dallas has put into action the Gospel mandate to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, and care for the sick. From humble beginnings as an orphanage in Oak Cliff – the southern sector of Dallas – Catholic Charities now serves more than 50,000 people annually, regardless of race, age, gender, disability, national origin, or religious belief.

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Galveston-Houston is a sign of God's love and compassion in the community. The mission of Catholic Charities is to extend to all persons the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Catholic Charities provides culturally sensitive social services to those in need, without regard to race, religion or socioeconomic status. As an advocate for social justice, Catholic Charities empowers the community through action and education, asserting the principle of human dignity.

The Charlie Mae Ransom Technology Learning Center (formerly known as the CyberSpot) is located adjacent to the Roseland Homes Housing Development. We encourage all visitors, especially members of the neighborhood, to learn skills needed to succeed in our information-based economy. Current programs include: basic computer literacy and Microsoft Office training for adults; GED classes; graphic design and web page design; and effective job search training.

JobNet, a ministry of the Christian Community Service Center (CCSC), reaches out to Houston job seekers every day. Working closely with CCSC's Emergency Services program, JobNet focuses on helping the underemployed and the working poor - persons who often experience significant barriers to a traditional job search. Our comprehensive program makes an immediate impact on their employment searches, and thus, their lives.

The Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate and advocate for the needs of persons who are homeless through support and coordination of services.

The Cornerstone Community Development Corporation, (CCDC) exists to respond to the needs of residents living in the South Dallas and Fair Park communities. This historic community has suffered the ravages of becoming a transitional area with the loss of businesses, deteriorating housing and the influx of low-income populations. The mission of CCDC is to assist residents in breaking out of the cycle of poverty and to nurture them in living productive lives as they give back to their community.

CROSSROADS at Park Place, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is a joint endeavor of Park Place United Methodist Church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and Glenbrook United Methodist Church. It is administered by a volunteer board of directors, presenting broad range of social service, medical, ministerial, and non-profit experience. Located at the Park Place United Methodist Church, CROSSROADS opened its doors to homeless persons in October 2001 and has since then been providing services to promote their health, hygiene and dignity.

The Housing Authority of the City of Dallas, Texas (DHA) provides quality, affordable housing to low-income families and individuals through the effective and efficient administration of housing assistance programs; and by creating and cultivating opportunities for program participants to achieve self-sufficiency and economic independence. The Resident Employment & Training (RET) department is responsible for assisting current DHA residents reach their goals of self sufficiency through employment.

East Side University Village Community Learning Center offers a range of programs such as job workplace readiness, Graduate Equivalency Degree classes, and technical training for free to the public. Students will have open door access to an alternative neighborhood based community technology center which in addition to basic computer skill classes offers: GED Preparation Classes, Life Skills Training Classes, basic conversational Spanish classes, After School Youth Computer Tutorials and English As a Second Language (ESL).

Family Services of Houston provides individuals and families with the counseling and guidance they need to strengthen themselves and their relationships. For the past 101 years, Family Services has adapted its services to meet the changing needs of families in the Houston community and will continue to accommodate children and families as the landscape changes.

GCCSA provides a wide-ranging set of community services to income-eligible families and individuals of Harris County, Texas. Through twelve Community Services satellite offices we offer many services, including an Employment Skills Program. The program provides job search assistance, employability assessment and planning, referrals for on the job training, resume writing, and job development, job match and retention.

Through a network of dedicated volunteers, Human Rights Initiative helps those who have suffered terrible wrongs at home for worshipping their God. For speaking out against oppression. For being women. We provide legal representation and social services free of charge to those who have fled persecution and arrived in Dallas, Texas with nothing. No family, no friends. No money. And often, very little hope. At Human Rights Initiative, we provide the resources – the hope – these courageous people need to leave their persecutors behind and begin anew.
